This year the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) had three students advance to the national level of competition.

Zachery Greiner, Raven Santiago and Alyssa Wright competed together in the Social Media Campaign, advancing though area and earning second place at state, automatically qualifying them for the national competition.

The students got their prompt in the fall. The trio picked three social media platforms in which they could create a plan to promote a club or organization and raise the membership ten percent. They chose to get statistics for Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

“At first it was confusing because it was a new competition category and we didn’t know what to expect. We took it our own way and guessed a little, but really we ended up doing great.” Wright said.

To present, the students created a Prezi to be looked at. It contained only the basic prompt requirements. As Greiner, Santiago and Wright were presenting, they elaborated on the social media they researched. They had to know the ins and outs of their assigned platform so they could talk without notecards and be able to answer the questions that followed the presentation.

“Questions were the most terrifying part of the competition. The are on the spot so you have to answer effectively.” Santiago said.

Unfortunately Wright is unable to make the National competition in June. She can’t be replaced with another FBLA member but Grainer and Santiago aren’t letting the loss of a member stop them.

“We are re-vamping our presentation. We are making our beginning hook better and making some better transitions for Nationals.” Greiner said. They are going with heads held high and ready to pick up the part of their missing member.
