Two new gates have recently been installed around Timber Creek, in addition to the already installed gate on Funnel Street. One behind the school between Caprock Elementary and the field house (on Grey Twig Drive), and one between where the buses leave and Funnel Street (on High School Drive).
“The gates were put in place for security reasons and to direct the flow of traffic on campus,” Timber Creek Assistant Principal Gusti Ratliff said.
“On the weekend, there are a lot of unnecessary cars driving through, using our campus as a shortcut to their houses and, in the past, there has been vandalism on campus,” Ratliff said. “Ultimately, these gates are an added barrier of security, to keep those who don’t need to be on campus off, and those who do need to be here on campus.”
Starting Nov. 30, 2015, the gates will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., as stated on signs currently in place. Gates will be locked during school hours. The entrance by the band lot is the entrance/exit that cars will use to access campus during the school day.
“We’re narrowing it down to help with traffic flow and security on campus,” Ratliff said.
Administrators said the gates will also be closed on weekends, holidays, and other breaks as well.
