Hope for the Holidays finished up on Dec. 4, with a total of $3,184 donated to help families who cannot afford to celebrate their holiday.

The English classes took part in the event, setting up Christmas trees with paper ornaments that students could buy. The options were snowmen, trees, gingerbread men and stars. They ranged from 50 cents to 20 dollars.

“Hope for the Holidays is a special fundraiser that National Honors Society puts on every year, and we collect donations for families here at TCHS to help them in things they may not be able to provide during the holiday season. So it’s just a way to give back to our community,” said Cerissa Johnson, an English teacher who co-sponsors NHS and sponsors Hope for the Holidays.

Mrs. Groters’ class won with the most donations. Their Christmas trees were covered with paper ornaments and many were willing to talk to about what was special about this event.

“Other people can’t afford presents, so, I mean, we’re helping them out,” says Danny Kim.

“Most people can’t afford presents this year and it makes me sad because I’m grateful for what I have, so I just wanted to give back,” Tessa Martin commented.

The event will continue next year around the holiday season as well

“We encourage others to spread the word for next year Hope for the Holidays event, it’s important to keep in mind that this is benefiting someone that you may know,” Johnson said.
