Soccer Takes To The Turf For Spring Season

In the fall, the football team owns the turf. But during the spring, a new sport takes over. The Soccer team starts training the first day of school, up until Thanksgiving Break. After that the fun begins; try-outs and after school practice. For the weeks leading up to Christmas Break they practice until 5 p.m. every day after school. During Christmas Break they play a few scrimmages against schools outside of the district. In the past the pre-season has been unsuccessful, but this year turned over a new leaf for the soccer teams, with the introduction of first year Head Coach John Besancon and his program. The three teams– JV2, JV, and Varsity– all had successful campaigns to start the season.

First year Head Coach John Besancon has brought a new and improved look to all 3 teams. Alongside him is Assistant Varsity Coach Jeff Simpson.

“Its fun to be coaching with Coach Besancon. With 16/17 returning varsity players its humbling to see the players I first started coaching grow into the men and athletes they are today,” said Simpson. “Waiting 13 weeks anticipating the season is hard but once we get to the start of the season, there’s no feeling like it.”

“This year there is a new, exciting feel to the program as a whole. [Varsity] fully expects to finish top 4 this year to finally make our playoffs debut,” said Chase Silk, Senior Captain of the Boys Varsity team.
