FCCLA students qualified for state after competing in Waco this past weekend.
“I’m thrilled about my kids qualifying for state because of how hard they worked,” said FCCLA sponsor Kim Smith. “I am very proud of their hard work and dedication.”
Emily Daniel placed sixth in the Cupcake Challenge category, where this was a brand new event and had 29 participants. Diana Cabello placed fifth in Fashion design. In the category focus on children, Mady Hughes and Katy Rainwater placed third.
“It was a blast competing at both state and region. Getting to compete in a field that I love with great people was awesome,” said senior Mady Hughes. “I met some really cool people from all over Texas.”
Jalen Fluker and Alec Garza scored bronze, however they missed by one half of a point so Smith explains that she will be talking to the state officials because it is “unacceptable how they had a perfect presentation and didn’t place sixth when they should’ve”.
State will be held in Dallas at the Sheraton Hotel from April 7-9.
