Taped like spider webs or flying through the air, Timber Creek artists are celebrating Big Art Day in a big way.
Big Art Day is a day to celebrate and recognize art education held on March 3, 2016. It is a challenge by the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) to involve art teachers, their students and even communities to participate in a day of art.
Timber Creek’s art program is celebrating this day in different ways. For example, Ms. Thompson’s Sculpture 2 and 3 are taping the walls of the art hall as well as creating pottery by throwing clay on spinning wheels. Thompson’s three Art 1 classes are all also doing tape perspective drawings on the walls of the art hallway.
Another teacher, Ms. Jaros, is having her students make “random acts of art” on 5×7 paper then tying them to balloons that will be released at the end of the school day. On the back of the 5×7 papers will be a hashtag promoting others to post it on social media to further spread the word of Big Art Day. Art teachers and students in our school believe this day is very important.
“I believe art doesn’t get enough recognition and through Art Day we get to have other people recognize it while also spreading the word,” student artist Julia Sampe said.
