Think readers don’t win trophies? Think again.
Every year, several schools across the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex compete in The North Texas Book Battle. Ten books are assigned, and every team reads them over the school year. Each book is a different genre such as fantasy, historical, and nostalgia. Late in the second semester, these teams will meet at the Barnes and Noble in Southlake and compete “Family Feud” style for the trophy.
This year is Timber Creek High School’s second time competing. Members from last year have already begun to form a new battle plan.
“We’re excited to go back,” Brandy Abbott, Timber Creek librarian, said. “Win or lose, the book battle is so much fun, but I’m sure we’re going to win this year.”
There are no requirements, so any student can join the team. To join, see Mrs. Abbott in the library.
