On Saturday, Jan. 7, 20 Timber Creek students traveled to Coppell to compete at the TMEA Area Contest. The audition process can be quick and easy or long and tiring depending on the instrument you play, but it can be scary no matter what.
Despite being placed in a new area and not knowing what to expect from the competition, Timber Creek had four students earn a place in the All-State Band.
Aatmun Baxi- Alto Clarinet
Benton Westbrook- Alto Saxophone
Andrew Brooks- Bassoon
Samuel Himes- French Horn
“It’s super satisfying to have made it,” said senior Andrew Brooks. “I’m glad I get to play with the best kids in Texas because we all push each other to become better musicians. It’s just a really exciting adventure that I’m really looking forward to.”
TC also had four alternates: Jayne Margason on euphonium, Quinton Porter on english horn, Noah Pujol on clarinet and Daniel Kleveland on contrabass clarinet.
“It was nerve-racking, but really fun to get to hear other great musicians on my instrument,” said Jayne Margason, “Although it was disappointing being one away from making All-State, it was still an awesome experience that I’m glad I got to be a part of.”
