Timber Creek Cheer Squad Wins NCA Competition

On Jan. 21 and 22, the Timber Creek Cheer Team competed in the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) Senior and Junior High School National Championship in Dallas, TX, at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center.

“NCA is a competition with schools across America,” freshman cheerleader, Parker Thompson mentioned. “There are two different teams from our school [that competed], advanced and intermediate.”

The advanced competition cheer team won the title of first place for the second year in a row and the intermediate competition team placed sixth.

“To prepare for the competition, we practiced everyday during 5th period and a couple hours after school,” freshman cheerleader, Giovanna Baez commented.

“The team was excited for the weekend to finally come, but of course the nerves kicked in before we got on the mat,” senior cheerleader, Braeli Peters said. Once the winner of the competition was revealed, the TCHS cheer team rejoiced. “The experience was fun. We enjoyed missing school on Monday,” Baez simply said.

Competing is always an amazing experience for the whole team. It’s not only the competition, it’s the whole adventure. The hard work and the payoff that comes after it. Even if you don’t win, you know that the work was worth it,” Thompson explained. “There is this moment when you step on the mat and you just get this rush of adrenaline. Obviously the nerves are crazy but we know we can get through it with the love and support of our teammates and coaches.”
