Looking sharp while playing melodiously, the Timber Creek band has a full schedule ahead of themselves. Following the marching season, the percussionists smoothly transitions to the indoor season and all of the events included.
On Saturday, March 4, Timber Creek High School’s percussionists will be traveling to Dallas to compete in the annual Winter Guard International (WGI), Sport of the Arts. This will be the second time the TC Band will be entering the competition.
This year’s title for the drumline performance is “Off the Beaten Path.” The storyline of the concert revolves around a member of a hiking group getting lost and attempting to find their way on their own.
Arielle Bautista, a member of the battery who plays snare, expresses her thoughts on the shift.
“It’s something that percussionists look forward to because it focuses on the drumline more heavily than marching season does.”
Bautista also revealed the anticipation felt just before performing.
“It’s not really a feeling of nervousness; it’s more about controlling the adrenaline that’s flowing through your body and using it wisely.”
Anthony Azer, a bass two player and battery component, speaks on the endeavors encountered. “Everyday we face new challenges, but at the same time we’re getting better and it’s really cool to see all of our progress throughout the year.”
Through countless hours of practice and performing, the musicians continuously create a bond too strong to falter.
“I think we all grow together and put on a great performance every chance we could.” Azer unceasingly holds his head high as they become a closer family than the day before. “Every section does their very best, and we could all tell how hard each and everyone of us were trying to prove that Timber Creek was worthy.”
