The schedule to be implemented for the 2017-2018 school year was approved by the Keller ISD board during a Feb. 9 meeting.
In this new schedule, the start date will be August 15, 2017 for students. Teachers will return the week before for KISD professional development, and also have a day prior before students are back to school for teacher prep. This would shorten students summer by a week and teachers summer by two weeks.

In the new schedule, students would complete the entire first semester, including final exams, before Winter break begins on Dec. 15, 2017. Teachers will return on Jan. 3, 2018 while students return to start the second semester the next day.
Update, July 31, 2017: A newly updated calendar shows the A and B day classes for the 2017-18 school year, including a unique situation on October 10 and 11. Both October 10 and October 11 will be A Days due to an odd number of total instructional days in the year. October 11 will have a modified schedule due to the PSAT. Having two consecutive A Days will allow for equal instructional time between both A and B Days in the first semester.
The end date was altered from May 31 to 24 for all students in KISD, including seniors. This would would mean the class of 2018 would be in school for an additional 5 days than the previous classes who have graduated before them. For instance, the draft 2017-18 instructional calendar has all students in for 173 days as opposed to the 2016-17 school year which had grades 9-11 in school for 173 days and the class of 2017 in for 168 days. May 25, 2018 would be a scheduled teacher work day before Keller ISD 2018 Graduation day of May 26, 2018.
“The changes to the calendar are a result of the Board’s January 19th approval of the Keller ISD District of Innovation Local Innovation Plan which has a term of five years, affords greater levels of flexibility, and provides exemptions in 10 areas including the state mandated calendar start date,” the district posted.
