Timber Creek’s student-run radio station, TCFM, has a new way for listeners to tune in — smartphone apps for iOS, Android and Blackberry.
Timber Creek Student Radio is now available on the iTunes App Store for both iPhone and iPad. Also, the app is on Blackberry World here. Android app is expected to launch on the Google Play store shortly.
“We’re always pushing to challenge ourselves with student media,” advisor Greg Janda said. “These apps are a great way to push out our content right to where students are getting their music — their smart phones.”
The ad-supported app is a venture with Nobex Partners, which builds custom apps for radio stations using the Radionomy platform. The apps are free for users to download and enjoy.
But why get the app?
“There are many special features of the app that we couldn’t offer with our standard platform,” Janda explained. “Now students can suggest songs and send in comments more easily, see updates from our various social media accounts like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, all while listening to TCFM’s music.”
Within the app, students can see the songs that have recently played and “like” songs to share feedback with student programmers and save the songs they enjoy. Liking some of the original programs, like the JMR Morning Show or 2 Minute Drill will also enable users to get push notifications when new episodes air.
“Features like the built-in alarm clock and sleep timer can make getting up or falling asleep to TCFM even more user-friendly,” Janda suggested. “The app is really the best way to interact with and listen to the great music put together by the students in our classes.”
