Jewelry club meets every Monday from 4:00 p.m. -5:00 p.m. in the library. It provides students with an opportunity to try something they may not typically do in a fun and creative way, all the while interacting with other club members and making new friends.
Ginger Musto, a resource inclusion teacher here at Timber Creek, formed the club last year with the help of librarian Brandy Abbott. Musto’s inspiration to bring jewelry club to life came from her passion of designing and creating her own jewelry, which she sells through a personal company by the name of Silver Embrace Jewelry.
“I’ve always been good with my hands,” Musto said, recounting the time she made some beaded jewelry at a party years ago, and all her friends asked her to help them once they saw how skilled she was. Later on, when she lived in Massachusetts, a nearby jeweler offered her a job with his company, which she gladly agreed to. It took no time at all for her realize how much fun she had making jewelry and that she wanted to start selling her own designs.
Musto has been crafting sterling silver, antique inspired filigree jewelry with her company for about 7 years now. She loves the swirling designs popular from the Victorian to Edwardian era, using such jewelry as inspiration for her own creations. Using her knowledge and love of the craft, she teaches students how to make beaded jewelry themselves.
Anyone who attends one of the weekly club meetings can design their own bracelets, necklaces or earrings and take them for personal use or give them as a gift to a friend or family member. All beads and wires necessary for the production of jewelry is provided for the students, so all you have to bring is your body and a little bit of creativity. Musto also has hopes for the club to eventually create earrings to sell at football games, with mighty Falcons dangling from them or bright purple and gold radiating off the jewelry.
“Anyone can start a business, it just takes an idea,” Musto said, encouraging students to give jewelry club a try, for they may end up finding a new passion just like she did. Jewelry club is open to anyone who wishes to join and have a bit of fun with other students while they create unique beaded jewelry.
