National Art Honor Society is set to meet on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 3:45 p.m. or on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 8:00 a.m. in room M109. All members must attend one of these meetings.
NAHS was formed to spread positivity and creativity through the school. Led by President Jake Howard, the club highlights the talent and artistry of individuals in the school through projects and events. In the past, they have showcased student art through their annual Winter Gallery Walk and planned the memorial for Lisa Nakajima during the 2016-17 school year.
Their most successful and memorable project has been their mural for Project BeYOUtiful week during the 2016-17 school year that was meant to promote positive self image and self confidence as a school. The mural still hangs up in main hall for students and staff to see.
“It took us many hours to complete and the end result was amazing,” Howard said. “We hope people look at it and it brightens up their day.”
Although some students may not have the opportunity to see the aforementioned mural in main hall, there is a chance that they have already walked under another creation produced by NAHS.
“We also made a chandelier from recycled water bottles that was hanging up in the entrance of the school for a year,” Howard explained. “It was a fun project and the outcome looked really nice.”
At meetings, members discuss upcoming events, service hour opportunities, and workdays for their projects. According to Howard, NAHS plans to hold a fall fundraiser and hopes to have a paint night at the school. To join NAHS, students must be in at least Pre-AP Art 1. Applications are available to pick up in room M109.
