Nearly 40 Timber Creek choir students are moving on after the first round of All-State choir competitions.
For choir students, this past weekend was the first of four audition rounds for All-State choir. Hosted at Fossil Ridge High School, this round included singing three pieces of music for a set a judges then given a chair number which is your rank for that round. The top 36 chairs from each voice section advance to round two. Timber Creek had 35 singers advance and five alternates. One of the advancing singers, Jesse Champion, got first chair and says it wasn’t an easy task to achieve.
“I practiced at least 3 times a week for about 30 minutes. It was challenging to learn all the music and add your own musicality and tone to it. But it definitely payed off.
Jared Gamber, a junior that advanced in this round, describes how All-State auditions are more than just a competition.
“I received 5th chair in the Tenor 2 section which makes me feel extremely accomplished, however I know I need to work just as hard, if not harder for round 2 because many people are going to try to come for my spot,” Gamber explains. “However, at the end of the day, we are just sharing our talents and doing what we love and that is the most important thing in my opinion.”
Students who advanced will now begin working towards Region auditions on Oct 14. This music is significantly harder than the first round and will continue to get harder the further they advance with the ultimate goal being to perform in the All-State choir and represent Timber Creek proudly.
