The time has come. No more procrastination. Get seat time hours in before it’s too late.
If a student got that scary yellow paper sometime within the last two weeks, yes, it’s true, they owe seat time. Seat time is essentially credit recovery for students who haven’t met the minimum requirement of attendance for a certain class. The final due date to turn in completed seat time is Sept. 22. These recovery hours must be completed under the supervision of the teacher’s class that the student owes time for.
For example, if they owe 3 hours of seat time for Student Media teacher Gregory Janda’s Journalism one class, they must make up these three hours in Janda’s room and he has to sign off on them.
There are multiple ways one can go and makeup their seat time hours. Here are the three ways.
Seat time can be made up by attending tutorials for the teacher’s class that the student owes seat time for. Tutorial sessions can be attended either before or after school, outside of school hours. This teacher must sign off on the makeup hours in order to receive lost credit back.
Another way to gain back lost hours is going to Saturday school. Saturday school is in session on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Students must enter the building through the front of the school and be there promptly at 7:55 a.m. They are permitted to leave at any time, but will only get credited the hours that they serve and are present.
The last way to makeup seat time hours is by attending Falcon Night School, otherwise known as FNS. This will take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in room M106. Like Saturday school, they are permitted to leave at any time, but will only get credited the hours that they serve and are present.
Essentially, having to do credit recovery is the effect of having an excessive amount of absences. If students are not a senior, there will always be a due date for credit recovery each semester that they are to meet, but technically it rolls over to the next semester if these hours aren’t met. However, if a student is a senior, getting the seat time submitted as soon as possible is crucial because, when applying to colleges, the students transcript will have the absences recorded, and they won’t get credit for that course until they make up those lost hours.
Furthermore, there are also various restrictions that come with students who have seat time and failed to make it up. Some of which include, getting a VOE from the office, buying a parking pass, and being able to get a ticket to the homecoming dance.
Completing credit recovery is something that has to happen before the student’s graduation.
