After Timber Creek’s volleyball placing second at the Berkner tournament, senior Kenna Muff won the Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s volleyball player of the week as of Aug. 27 to Sept. 3. Awarded this title after playing center and right side, Muff herself did not campaign for player of the week, crediting this achievement to her team’s hard work in the games.
“I just played the best I could but in order to get player of the week you have to work as a team, your team has to do good in order to get recognized,” Muff said. “So since our team played really well in that tournament I was able to be recognized.”
Muff has been playing volleyball recreationally since elementary school but did not start playing competitively until she was in the seventh grade.
“Being a volleyball player [provides] a place where I can be myself and the game itself is just a very competitive game and it is fun and that is the most important thing,” said Muff. “The volleyball team [works] well together and have worked hard to elevate our strengths and minimize our weaknesses.”
She has also committed to playing volleyball at the college level at Texas Woman’s University but says she does not plan on playing professionally after that.
“Volleyball at the collegiate level has always been a goal of mine,” Muff commented. “[But] like most college volleyball players, I want to start my life after college too. Winning player of the week has been a great way to not only show my efforts but also show the team’s efforts…in order for one of us to get recognized our team must get get recognized first. We have all worked hard to show the [team is] on the rise.”
