Going into this game, Timber Creek knew that it would be tough, and Fossil Ridge confirmed that the Falcons are not invincible, beating Timber Creek 28-25.
The Falcons started off strong, outscoring the Panthers 15-0 in the first quarter. The Timber Creek defense looked strong in the first quarter, allowing Fossil to score no points. Yet, the second quarter was a complete different story, with the Falcons offense only able to score a touchdown as Fossil Ridge came back in quick fashion, scoring 3 touchdowns to Timber Creek’s 1, for 21 points.
Going into halftime, Timber Creek had a narrow 22-21 lead over Fossil Ridge. The third quarter was a defensive story, as the only score came from a touchdown by Fossil Ridge. The fourth quarter saw Fossil with the advantage over Timber Creek 28-22, with the Falcons making a field goal to bring them within three points to tie. Hopes looking up for the team, the Timber Creek defense managed to stop Fossil Ridge, giving the football back to the Falcons, with the future of a comeback looking promising. However, though the Falcons were able to get down the field by a fair amount, they were ultimately shut down.
On fourth down, Ethan Mooney, the Falcon’s kicker, came out to attempt a 40+ yard field goal. With the crowd going quiet in hopes that the ball would fly through the uprights, Mooney struck his foot through the ball, unfortunately unable to make the game-tying field goal.
Friday night was Timber Creek’s first loss, as they fall to 4-1. Fossil Ridge continues their perfect season after the victory, improving to 5-0. Timber Creek looks to take on Weatherford on Oct. 13, once again at KellerISD Stadium, with the game starting at 7:30 p.m.
