Keller ISD Stadium was booming Friday night, as Timber Creek took on Weatherford for their Homecoming game. Weatherford, winless in 6 games, came into Keller attempting to get their desired first win. Although the Roos could not get the victory, they put up a fight, losing to Timber Creek 17-13.
Weatherford received the ball first, which the Roos took advantage of, scoring a rushing touchdown for the first six points of the game. Timber Creek, though looking to gain back the lost points, unfortunately turned over the ball via fumble, putting Weatherford in good field position. With their gained back possession, Weatherford took on the Falcon defense, taking an early game risk and going for it on fourth down. Yet, the Falcon defense stood strong, stopping the Weatherford offense, and gaining back a needed possession. Ending the first quarter, Timber Creek scored their first points of the game, making it 7-3 Roos with a field goal.
The Falcon Defense took control of the game in the second quarter, holding the Roos scoreless. Timber Creek took the lead, just before halftime, thanks to a passing touchdown by Erik Ezukanma. The third quarter was defense-controlled, as no points were scored by either teams.
To start the fourth quarter, Timber Creek increased their lead to 17-7, on a rushing touchdown by Blake Irving, who showed strength and speed on the play. With six minutes left on the clock, Weatherford lowered the margin with a rushing touchdown, but missed the PAT, making the score 17-13. The Roos, desperate for a win, lined up for an onside kick, which the Falcons recovered with ease. A motivated Weatherford defense, forced the Falcons to punt, giving the Roos a chance at a potential game winning drive. Weatherford, made a valiant attempt to get down field and win, but Timber Creek’s defense once again came up big, crushing the Roos dreams of a victory, with an interception by Henry Ngabonziza. The Falcons ran the clock out, capping a close 17-13 Homecoming victory.
The Falcons travel to Birdville ISD stadium to take on Haltom at 7 p.m. in their next game on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017.
