On Tuesday, Nov. 7, the Timber Creek Speech and Debate team hosted their second annual event showcase from 5:30 p.m. to 7:40 p.m. in the cafeteria. The turnout was greater than expected, relatives and other team members showing up to support their friends and the team.
“I think it was a very good opportunity for the debate students to showcase the work that they’ve been doing and it highlights the effort put forth by our team,” said junior Michael Fish.
The showcase featured 15 events out of the 16 the team has, only four away from having all 20 events covered. Kicking the event off, the head debate coach, Debbie Begley, introduced the Masters of ceremony, who went about introducing not only the events, but the people and their personality as well. Starting with a duo performance by Cecily Anderson and Mati Souza, and ending the showcase with an extemporaneous speech from Mink Sandhu, it was filled with talent throughout.
While it was an incredibly relaxed event and setting, it only have the team another chance to practice before their meet at Wylie High School and OD Wyatt High School on Saturday, Nov 11.
“Our upcoming contests are going to be great,” said Fish. “The congress team which has grown dramatically this year, is going to separate contest than the rest of the team and has a really good chance of having several finalists.”
