The 2018 cheer tryouts will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 7:00 p.m. at Timber Creek. However, this is only the date for a tryout at Timber Creek. Those that wish to participate can attend one of four different meetings, including the one already mentioned. Meetings are mandatory, and participants must attend one of the meetings if they wish to tryout. The meeting days are as follows:
Monday, Jan. 22 at 7:00 p.m., at Keller High School
Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 7:00 p.m., at Fossil Ridge High School
Thursday, Jan. 25 at 7:00 p.m., at Central High School
“Point Values for the rubric have changed,” said head cheer coach, Alisha Fickle. “A lot of our students are used to the same rubric from the past few years.”
Any current high schooler is allowed to tryout, and tryouts are especially open to incoming freshmen. Cheerleaders that are already part of the team are required to tryout again this year to participate on the team, but just because they are veterans to the team doesn’t mean there won’t be any competition.
“We want to see potential team mates who hold to the necessary skills, have good showmanship, and a good crowd appearance,” said sophomore, Madi Hill, current cheerleader. “They need to be ready to make the commitment.”
“Students are not required to attend their school meeting to tryout,” Fickle said. “However students must attend [a meeting] with a parent or guardian.”
