11 Shocking Yearbook Secrets You Won’t Believe, Plus 1 You Totally Will

Sorry for the clickbait title, but in the age of the Internet, sometimes it means you have to play the game to shine light on something special and a little old-school — the high school yearbook.

In honor of distribution day of the 2018 edition of The Creek Yearbook at Timber Creek High School, we compiled 11 shocking secrets about the Yearbook that you won’t believe — plus 1 you totally will.

SECRET 1: IT’S YOUR VIEW

The first 2018 Yearbook secret is right on the cover — in fact, it is the cover. The word “VIEW” on every yearbook cover is cut out to allow students to customize their yearbooks with a card that contains four images from student photographers which show through the “VIEW.” Students can also print out their own 5×7 images to place in the pocket to customize the view even further.

SECRET 2: THERE’S A VIRTUAL VIEWER

A custom printed VR viewer comes with every 2018 Yearbook and allows you to get truly unique views from all over Timber Creek. You can access the VR by going to http://vr.timbercreektalon.com on mobile devices or your computer and see 360-videos from TCTV and a virtual Art Gallery with TCHS VASE artists.

SECRET 3: ALL AROUND YOU

Speaking of videos, one of the partnerships between TCTV and Yearbook this year includes interactive 360-degree videos from Band, Drumline, Choir, Cheer, Soccer, Softball, Pep Rallies and more. You can view the whole playlist by clicking here, or by visiting the vr.timbercreektalon.com site and clicking on the purple box.

SECRET 4: EVEN ABOVE YOU

One of the best spreads in the yearbook is focused on parking. While that sounds lame as a sentence, it’s epic on the page. We got an aerial photo of the Senior Parking spots after they were decorated this year and Yearbook students spent hours identifying and putting the names of each senior by their spot.

SECRET 5: THAT’S REAL LIPSTICK

For the Sky Dancers page this year, Yearbook designers actually used the specific lipstick color required to be worn by the Sky Dancers to get the streak of lipstick on the spread.

SECRET 6: THEY DID THE MATH

Friday night lights takes a lot of time, energy, buses and food. Yearbook editors crunched the numbers and did the math to find out how many chips were served at football team dinners, how many hair buns (including man buns!) were fixed up, and more.

SECRET 7: WHATA-BATTLE

Yearbook editors polled Timber Creek to see which would win, In-n-Out or Whataburger. While they’ve got quotes for both sides, you might not want to ask Talon/TCTV member Paige Greene what she thinks — she’s covered in her own page about her Whataburger obsession.

SECRET 8: A LOT OF NAMES

There’s nearly 15 pages of index, covering the over 3,300 unique names in the yearbook. Of course, there are some similarities in those pages — specifically in last names, where Johnson, Hernandez, Nguyen, and Williams were some of the most common.

SECRET 9: WE REMEMBER

Timber Creek student Lisa Nakajima, who passed away in 2017, would have been in the graduating class this year. The second to last Senior Ad features a memorial to her from her family.

SECRET 10: FEATURE PRESENTATION

Dozens of TCHS students are covered in depth in the yearbook about their passions, whether it’s for car racing or wearing the same shirt every Friday since 5th grade. Don’t skip the stories in this year’s book!!

SECRET 11: IT’S MADE BY STUDENTS…YEP, STUDENTS

When you’re handed a 416 page book that looks this good, you might expect it’s produced by a professional-level design company — and it sort of is. The Creek Yearbook is a student-planned publication. The staff is made up of 19 students who do it all. They take photos, interview, write, design, edit, sell books and ads while trying to meet deadlines. Their homework is covering events and people all year. Their classwork is writing and designing that coverage on the page. They write, they revise, they stress and they rewrite many times. They spend hours in room N202 after the school day ends.

It’s pretty darn amazing.

1 SECRET YOU’LL TOTALLY BELIEVE: THERE’S A DOG IN THE YEARBOOK

Just like last year, Soldier Campbell is in the Yearbook.
