This year’s “Shrink your Mum” campaign is coming up soon. Wednesday, Oct. 10 through Friday, Oct. 12, the senior class officers and their sponsor, Emily Boehringer, will be selling buttons at lunches for $5. Students and staff are encouraged to buy a button, decorate it with ribbon to resemble a homecoming mum, and all the proceeds will go to the Mending Faces Foundation.
This annual fundraiser originated when students suggested a campaign during homecoming season that encourages students to donate their “mum money” to a charity, instead of spending a fortune on a mum. Alaina Richarson, senior, has been a consistent participant in the “Shrink Your Mum” campaign since she was a freshman.
“I’ve always bought a button, but since I’m a senior, I’m going to deck out my button in some mum decorations,” said Richardson. “It’s a good cause that it goes to and I get to show my school spirit at the same time.”
All of the proceeds from “Shrink Your Mum” will go to “Mending Faces,” an organization that specializes in giving children with Cleft Lip and Cleft Palette scholarships to receive the surgeries they need to fix their facial deformities.
There’s no need to spend a fortune on a mum when “Shrink Your Mum” has given students and staff a chance to rock a button-mum, and give back to a charity as well. Participate in “Shrink Your Mum” this year, and give back to the Mending Faces Foundation.
