This year’s Swim Team dove into into yet another successful, record breaking meet on Dec. 8 and 9 at the Mansfield Natatorium.
“I just basically think I will do good because if you think bad you will have the wrong mindset,” junior Nickolas Eriksen said, explaining his thought process going into the meet.
Preliminaries on Friday, Dec. 8 proved to be a cold and rainy day which took its effect on swimmers in the form of tense muscles and slower times. Despite this setback, many of the competing swimmers were able to still qualify for finals the next day and improve their previous times.
In the end, the swim team had two podium finishes with sophomore Maci Finder placing third in the 200 I.M and Eriksen placing third in the 100 Breaststroke with a record breaking swim of 1.01.94.
“I’ve wanted to break it since I was a freshman but just kind of hit those walls where you can’t go anymore,” Eriksen said about his longtime goal of breaking the record and who now has his sights on breaking the 100 free and 50 free records.
With district and region quickly approaching, swimmers continue to train steadfast in their pursuit of improvement.
