Turning Another Page: First Book Club Meeting of the Year

With the start of classes also comes the start for many clubs. Book Club will have their first meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 28 in the library from 3:50 p.m. to 4:15 p.m and will meet every week. Anyone is welcome to attend.

“It’s a great way to meet friends and find your new favorite book,” Sponsor Brandy Abbott said in an email.

The first book of the year will be Solo by Kwame Alexander, a story about a boy who struggles to find a place in his family while also becoming his own independent person. Over the course of the school year, Book Club will read between eight to ten books over the course of the school year.

“He’s a really popular author,” Abbott said. “I think a lot of people will like [Solo].”

The books that get chosen to read stay relatively close to the list of books used during battle of the books as it and Book Club are closely intwined. However, you do not have to be a part of book club to join battle of the books and vice versa.

“The books on the list are chosen by and voted by librarians all over the metroplex,” Abbott said. “These [should] be the good one!”
