This year, National Art Honor Society (NAHS) will host monthly craft nights, the first of which will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 8 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in room FA108. It costs $25 at the door to participate. Participants will make fabric flowers and create their own wreaths. Those interested can sign up and reserve a spot by clicking here.
The money earned from the craft night will go directly towards NAHS’s yearly budget.
“We use those funds for the field trip we go on once a year, either to the museum or to do arts-based community service. The fund also supplies a senior with a $500 scholarship towards college,” art teacher Mikaela Jaros said. “It also goes to stuff that we do to support the art program, so it will go to the winter art gallery, art awards night, and to buy supplies like the rainbow cords. All that good stuff.”
Last year, NAHS hosted paint nights. This year, they’ve made the switch to craft nights instead.
“We did paint night
sall last year and we thought maybe we should switch it up and do some other things, because we have a well rounded group that can do a lot of cool stuff,” Jaros said. “Like, Nina, our president, makes earrings and jewelry just for fun. I’m like, why don’t we use some of those skills?”
Each craft night NAHS plans to host will focus on a different craft.
“We’re doing a fall wreath where we’re going to teach people how to make fabric flowers and then attach those to a wreath base this month,” Jaros said. “Next month, we’re going to teach arm knitting to make infinity scarves. In December, we’re going to make gnomes.”
According to Jaros, parents, students, teachers, friends and supervised children are all welcome to attend the craft night.
“Anybody can come,” Jaros said. “There’s only 20 spots, so sign up now.”
