Have You Decorated a Gourd-geous Pumpkin? Participate in the Library Pumpkin Decorating Contest

Want to participate in a pumpkin decorating contest? Drop off your decorated pumpkins in the library by Tuesday, Oct. 22 in order to compete.

Students interested in participating will also need to fill out a form before dropping off their pumpkin, which can be found in the library.

When picking out your pumpkin, make sure it is smaller than a basketball as anything larger is not permitted. Pumpkins are encouraged to be decorated like a student’s favorite book character or book cover. Pumpkins should not be carved nor cut because it will cause the pumpkin to rot. Pin-sized holes are the only cuts tolerated. Materials such as acrylic paint and permanent markers are suggested, as well as yarn, stickers, and buttons to further give the pumpkin character.

A committee of teachers will vote on which pumpkins portrayed the book characters or cover the best. First, second and third places will be awarded to celebrate the student’s creativity.

After the winners are announced, students are encouraged to bring their pumpkins home with them. If they are not retrieved by Oct. 31, they will be thrown out.
