Falcon varsity football players soared over the Fossil Ridge Panthers on Friday, Oct. 25 with a 16-14 win.
Despite the cool and rainy weather, the Falcons’ defense started their strong performance by forcing a 3-and-out. They were put in great field position as they got the ball back at the Panthers’ 46 yard line after the punt.
The Falcons had a fumble recovery in the first quarter that led to a 32 yard field goal by senior Jose-Carlo Martinez. With 2:26 remaining in the first quarter, the Falcons kept their led of 6-0 with another field goal made by Martinez.
The Falcons soon scored a touchdown and point-after-touchdown in the second quarter, making the score 13-0 before the half with 7:04 left. Martinez went 3 for 3 and kicked another field goal to keep the Falcon led.
The Falcons then recovered a dropped kick, but were not able to capitalize on it. Travis Ngethe then took advantage of a poor throw by the Panthers quarterback, and returned the ball to the Falcons’ 24 yard line.
At the end of the third quarter, the Falcons kept a lead of 13-7. The defense struggled to hold Ridge’s offensive-line, which led to an impressive catch by the Panthers. Ridge hit the point-after-touchdown, and brought the game to 16-14, with the Falcons slightly in the lead.
With 6:34 left in the game, the Panthers missed the game-winning field goal, and the Falcons had the ball back with only 0:26 seconds left. The game ended with a win of 16-14 for the Falcons.
Come support the Falcons on Oct. 31 at the Keller ISD Stadium on the away side at 7 p.m. against Central High School. The game will also be broadcast on NFHS Sports Network.
