Happy Fall Y’all; 7 Activities to Make Thanksgiving Break Festive

Sometimes long-anticipated holiday breaks can be underwhelming when they finally arrive, and the week turns into sitting on the couch for hours on end or babysitting little cousins all day. If you’re looking for activities to do with your family or an excuse to get out of the house, look no further. Here’s a list of seven exciting things you can do this Thanksgiving break.

1. Trot like a turkey at the annual Turkey Trot

Join thousands of Americans spread out over 41 different states with the YMCA to run, walk, or ‘trot’ on Thanksgiving day. The Fort Worth Turkey Trot is at Camp Bowie and Westridge in front of Frost Bank, and you can register for a timed or untimed 1K, 5K, or 10K at https://fwtrot.org/ .

2. Visit ICE! featuring A Charlie Brown Christmas

Bundle up in parkas to walk through a chilly exhibit of larger than life colorful ice sculptures themed around A Charlie Brown Christmas. The exhibit is at the Gaylord Texan, and children’s tickets start at $14.99, and adults at $23.99. Buy tickets at https://tickets.gaylordtexan.com/eventperformances.asp?evt=59

3. Enjoy Six Flags’ Holiday in the Park

Enjoy the holiday decor illuminating the whole park as well as holiday treats and shows. The festive attractions are accompanied by the park’s usual attractions and thrills, and you can purchase tickets here  https://www.sixflags.com/overtexas/special-events/holiday-in-the-park#ref45110

4. Take relatives to the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth

View paintings, sculptures, photography, video, and more at The Modern, where everyone under 18 gets in free of charge, and those over 18 is $16, and admission for those over 60 is $12. Tickets are sold at the front desk and cannot be purchased online.

5. Go ice skating

Though ice skating in Texas sounds like an oxymoron, you can take part in this classic winter activity at Panther Island Ice, Children’s Health StarCenter, Galleria Ice Skating Center, etc. All of these rinks allow for individual skaters to rent skates and glide on the ice with friends or family.

6. Get your Christmas tree for the year

If you celebrate Christmas and want to commit to a real tree this year, take a day with the whole family to pick one out at a tree nursery like Fossil Creek Tree Farm Nursery and Landscape Co., Santa’s Christmas Trees, etc.

7. Start your holiday season with the Southlake Tree Lighting

Bring a can of food for the Hope for the Holidays food drive to Southlake Town Square on Nov. 23 from 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm. The tree lighting is at 6 pm, but other events of the night will include holiday crafts, photos with Santa Claus, carriage rides, holiday treats for purchase, etc.
