Class of 2020 Edition of “Senior Swammers”

The swim meet that all swimmers look forward to from their first stroke as a high school swimmer to their last is the Senior meet. Occurring on Jan. 9 at the Natatorium, all the senior swimmers were recognized and their future plans revealed.

“It was a sad, happy moment to get hugged by all my teammates after the senior walk,” Senior Timothy Lim said. “On one hand, I was happy to make all these friends within a year, and on the other hand, I was sad to about graduating and not being able to see them as often as I will while attending high school. After reading the messages written on my senior poster by my teammates, I really got to see how lucky I am to have these people as my teammates.”

Each senior swimmer has their own poster exhibited with their senior photos and pictures from their youth that fellow teammates then sign. Its meant to be a special remembrance for the seniors to be able to look back on with fondly. Additionally, the senior swim meet is also a popular time for alumni swimmers to come back and support their old teammates as they go through the senior activities that they once went through.

“The senior meet meant that my swim season was coming to an end and I need to cherish the time I have with my teammates,” senior Mia Cicerelli said. “When I saw Karson I had the biggest smile on my face because I haven’t seen him since he went to college and it was so special that he took the time to come back to see the seniors.”

Historically, this meet is one of the least competitive and allows for swimmers to have fun without stressing over their performance. There have been instances where swimmers swam a 500 butterfly during the 500 free or did a 100 I.M instead of a 100 freestyle. At this meet, four senior girls reunited and swam a special race during the 200 Freestyle Relay.

“It was amazing,” senior diver Bristol Putney said in regards to rejoining the swim relay after two years of not swimming. “I was so happy to get with my friends, it was very nostalgic.”
