Last Tuesday night, Jan. 7, Timber Creek Varsity Boys Basketball lost their second District game of the season at Byron Nelson.
The first quarter saw the Falcons go down by a deficit of 16-12, as Nelson came out of the gate strongly. Falcon Guard, Cooper Steele helped pull back the deficit at the end of the quarter, as his stellar 3-point shooting helped Creek go on a 5-0 run to end the quarter.
Unfortunately, the Bobcats began to facilitate the game, using their size advantage to control the paint against the Falcons. Timber tried everything, however mid-range and 3-point shooting went stale for the Falcons. To end the half, Steele nailed a buzzer-beater 3. Sloppily played by both sides, the 2nd quarter ended with Creek only down two points.
Needing a strong second half, the Falcons came out of the game with high intensity. When Nelson guard Finley Bizjack made a three pointer, it sparked a heavy momentum shift in the favor of the Bobcats. Led by Jake Menn, who went 4 for 4 from the line, Byron was too much for the Falcons to handle, as their fast ball movement, and presence in the paint broke down TImber Creek. Capping off a stellar third quarter, the Bobcats’ Power Forward, Jayden McCray threw it down on the Falcons.
In the final quarter of the game, Timber showed their grit; outscoring Byron 17 to 12. However this effort was not enough, as the Falcons still fell to Byron Nelson by a final score of 59 to 51.
