Online Instruction For KISD Students Begins March 23

Since the announcement of the two week closure across Keller ISD campuses due to the spread of COVID-19, the question of class work has been on many students’, parents’, and staff members’ minds. It has been confirmed through an email sent out to KISD families by Sara Koprowski, KISD Executive Director of Curriculum & Instruction (C&I), that classes will resume on Monday, March 23; however, classes will be conducted online.

Through an internal online site called “KISD eLearning Supports,” all KISD teachers have access to lessons and ideas, as well as instructional supports. This online platform gives teachers the opportunity to “provide students with high-quality instruction,” according to Koprowski’s email.

Students and parents can expect to begin to receive information from their teachers on Monday, March 23, if they have not already. It is important that students check their KISD email inboxes, as well as any Remind101, Google Classroom, or Canvas groups their teachers have previously set up in order to stay in communication and receive instruction.

The KISD C&I staff is aware that not every student has the same opportunities in accessing online course work and instruction, therefore grades will not be taken and missing assignments will not penalize students. The instruction that teachers give students during this hiatus will be centered around the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), just as regular lesson plans during the school year are.

Keller ISD Families,

Over the past week, several Keller ISD Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) staff members have worked collaboratively and diligently to create the online learning platform that our teachers will utilize during the District’s closure to provide students with high-quality instruction, beginning Monday, March 23. Students and parents can expect to begin to receive information from their teachers on that date, if they have not already. All KISD teachers now have access to “KISD eLearning Supports,” an internal online site that provides teachers with various resources, lessons, ideas, and many other instructional supports.

We know how important it is for our PreK-12 students to continue to learn and grow. However, during this time, grades will not be taken and students will not be penalized for incomplete assignments, because we know that not every student has the same tools and access to online learning.

“KISD eLearning Supports” provides lesson plans, activities for core content, sample lessons and resources, Fine Arts enrichment activities broken down by grade level and subject matter, digital libraries, and includes special population (GT, Dyslexia, SpED, 504, Bilingual, ELL, etc.) supports as well. Part of the C&I work includes identifying and planning for Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) that, as always, are a priority focus.

Keller ISD is committed to providing educational excellence for all students. Thank you for your support as we work together to keep our students engaged in online learning opportunities.

Sincerely,

Sara Koprowski
Keller ISD Executive Director of Curriculum & Instruction
