On Feb. 8th, after months of intense practice hours and preparation, five Timber Creek choir students traveled on a bus to San Antonio for the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) convention.
“Returning to TMEA this year was an unforgettable experience! I got to be a member of the All State Women’s Choir under Dr. Kristina Macmullen, which was absolutely incredible. Over the course of the three days I spent there, I learned so much about music and its role in today’s society, and it was very eye-opening. It made me remember why I love singing all over again!” said Caroline Norton.
Making All-State is the highest achievement a Texas music student can receive. More than 1,700 students are selected through a process that begins with over 64,000 students from around the state competing for the chance to perform in one of 15 band, orchestra, and choir ensembles. Congratulations to the following students for receiving this honor:
Amanda Barber-All State Mixed Choir
Nam Nguyen-All State Men Choir
Jacob Rodriguez -All State Mixed Choir
Hannah Davis-All State Mixed Choir
Caroline Norton-All State Treble Choir
These students, all seniors, have been preparing their audition material since the summer, and have put in countless hours of hard work and preparation. Hours of rehearsal and three auditions later, they all accomplished their goal.
“I have never been in a men’s choir of such an amazing caliber, and that was phenomenal of itself. It was so cool to sing with such talented guys from all over the state with such different yet complex pieces of choral literature.” Said Nam Nguyen, “TMEA is just a marvelous experience that changes your viewpoint and musicianship in ways unimaginable.”
